Meet the new Cultural Districts

According to Americans for the Arts, Cultural districts are defined as well-recognized, labeled areas of a city in which a high concentration of cultural facilities and programs serve as the main anchor of attraction. They help strengthen local economies, create an enhanced sense of place, and deepen local cultural capacity. And now Stonington has two of them!

Thanks to the hard work of the EDC's Cultural Districts Committee and Wendy Bury of the SECT Cultural Coalition, we are ready to form a commission and are looking for members that represent the Arts & Culture sector of our community, and also members who live and/or do business in each of the 2 districts. Applications are being accepted through April 21, 2023, so please apply here if you are interested. You can download the PDF application below

EDC will hold a special meeting on April 18, 9 AM at Human Services for questions and to plan next steps. Questions? Email chair Elsie Bisette: elsiebis@yahoo.com.
